A couple of weeks back we scanned the ewes: the rain held off; the sun shone; and even better the results were good. Last year the ratio of expected lambs to ewes was under 1.4 but today it was over 1.66, which is where we would normally expect it to be. Moreover there are no quadruplets expected and only 12 triplets, which means fewer lambs will need hand rearing.
Despite the weather, the ewes are in a very good condition; indeed some may even be a little overweight! As in previous years we had help from Mark and Shanta, our lovely tenants from unit 9 – a great advanage of having a XX Our scanner was Sophie, who lives in New Zealand but spends two months in the UK scanning every year; and in passing seeing her friends and family!
