#FromTheFarm – lambs, paperwork and rain

It’s a busy time at Rush Farm and here’s an update from farmer Adrian:

There has been quite a lot of activity involved in moving stock onto different pastures while lambing is still not quite finished.

We had a good conversation with our Natural England adviser from which we learnt how to manage the new demands in term of paperwork and also made a bid for support for extra orchard trees.

Not yet made our single payment claim which is becoming a bit of a worry as there is a time limit. Part of the trouble arose from the software introduced by DEFRA which had to be withdrawn.

Hedgerows are still full of blossom – blackthorn and wild cherry – while fruit trees are now past bud burst. The frost we had a couple of nights ago was severe but hopefully did little damage.

Best news of all is that we’ve had some much needed rain. We were beginning to fear for our spring sown oats

Spotted: saw swallows at the weekend on the farm and there are at lest two calling cuckoos in the neighbourhood

That’s all for now.
