Rush Farm Christmas Fayre – Sunday 6th December 2015
Reindeer, hot food and drinks, stalls… Christmas starts down on the farm!
We run several public events every year, including at least one of a summer, harvest (autumn) or Christmas Fayre, all in aid of Stockwood Community Benefit Society. Check back soon for more information or follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
Summer Fete – 8 August 2015, 11am-5pm
It was a lovely day and a fun time was had by all!
Lambing Day – 4 April 2015, 10am-4pm
A free to join open day at the peak of the lambing season, our 2015 Lambing Day was blessed with moderate weather in amongst rainy days. Visitors talked to our experienced farmers and lambers plus our two WWOOF UK volunteers to learn more about what goes on here at the farm. Some tasty snacks were provided and the children used the pond space as the perfect opportunity for a frolick – following the lead of the lambs! We hope to see you again next year!
Christmas Fayre – December 6th 2014
A big thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas Fayre this year and helped us celebrate Christmas and our second share offer which is to raise money for an eco-education centre here on the farm and to fund renewable energy on the business park. It was a beautiful winter’s day with frost in the morning and glorious sunshine.
The jazz was fantastic, the carol singers wonderful, the stalls amazing, the food delicious and Father Christmas and his reindeer were simply the best! We loved showing you all round the farm and we hope that everyone who came enjoyed the day as much as we did.
Harvest Fayre – September 20th 2014
This year’s September Harvest Fayre started with overcast skies but it didn’t stop everyone who came from enjoying themselves. Even the aerobatic display was not put off by the weather and thrilled us all with the most brilliant low-level display! There was a good crop of apples for pressing, which made the most delicious juice and The Black Pig cooked up some very tasty and popular Rush Farm burgers. There was morris dancing, jazz, craft stalls as well as bushcraft demonstrations. It was also the launch of the second Stockwood Community Benefit Share Option which looks to raise money to build and develop an eco-education centre and invest in renewable energy sources. Thank you to everyone who came and we hope to see you at our Christmas Fayre in December!
Lambing Day – 12th April
Our lambing event was a very small scale event this year, but everyone who came enjoyed themselves. One family stayed over two hours waiting for a birth and we were all very pleased when healthy twins eventually arrived! Overall lambing went very well and there are now over 260 beautiful lambs.
Christmas Fayre – Sunday 1st December
What an amazing day we all had! The most marvellous turn out, a wonderfully Christmassy selection of gifts and food, not forgetting the reindeer, tractor rides and Mother Christmas. The day was completed with the magical lantern walk, led by Brendan on the bagpipes and the reindeer and Rita Malpass (nee Hillman) who kindly turned on the Christmas tree lights for us! Thank you to everyone who took part and made it such a memorable day.
Rush Farm September Stroll 21st September 2013
The September Stroll was blessed with warm, dry weather and even some sunshine in the afternoon!
We planted some spring bulbs, which will provide a wonderful display in March and April, in time for our lambing event, and there was a gentle stroll around the farm for those visitors who weren’t too busy feasting on blackberries, listening to stories, searching for dragon’s tears or throwing the ball for Flash the sheepdog.
One of the totally unexpected things that happened was that two young ladies met again some 25 years after their last meeting. One of the two was a daughter of the Hillman family that farmed here until 1986, who brought with her not just a book of photographs of the family and house as it was, but also was able to confirm the link with the Archers. Her friend was the daughter of the haulier who had been responsible for transporting cattle and horses for the Hillmans – a serious activity given the scale of their horse training and breeding and their breeding of pedigree dairy shorthorns.
It was a joy to hear their stories and to see the pleasure gained both from looking round the house and meeting each other, and the joy for them that Rush Farm is still a farm to be proud of.
Rush Farm Fete 3rd August 2013
A huge thank you to everyone who came to the fete and helped us celebrate the launch of Stockwood Community Benefit Society. We had a marvellous time and we hope you all did too. The sun shone, the jazz band were fantastic, the food was delicious and the aerobatic display was just stunningly amazing! We very much enjoyed being able to talk about the farm and Stockwood CBS and having the opportunity to share and show everyone around our beautiful farm. We loved it all, thank you to Karen Lumley and to everyone who took part and made it such a fun afternoon!
