***PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DR.HAUSCHKA UK COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED***
Just over two weeks ago Stockwood CBS investment reached a milestone, hitting 50% of total funding required. At the same time, Dr.Hauschka UK celebrated its 15 year anniversary of operating on the Stockwood CBS land. Sophie Parsons takes us through the history of how she, along with her brother and sister, came to own the farm, explaining their motivation for the investment offer. To mark both milestones, we are also announcing a limited time competition involving both Dr.Hauschka UK and Stockwood CBS.
“When we began Elysia in November 1994, we worked from our parents’ garage. We fell out of bed and in to work; we had homemade soup at the kitchen table every day – that same kitchen table around which we learnt that Grandpa was great friends with Rudolf Hauschka himself. When Grandpa told us that, we knew where we needed to be. We all said yes to working with Dr.Hauschka.
After four years of diligently growing the business and getting Dr.Hauschka established and known in the UK, we were busting at the seams of the garage. We started to look for a unit to move to. My brother Sebastian met Paul Johnson in a retail space in Bromsgrove, and after meeting us, Paul invited us to his farm where he was converting the old farm buildings into business units.
Thus, in autumn 1998 we arrived at Rush Farm and the Stockwood Business Park. The unit we looked at still had horses in it, gazing at us as we gazed back, and we all wondered together, could we really do this? Could we leave the garage, and travel 15 minutes to work every day and build the business sufficiently to afford the rent? Plus, no more soup…
We brought our Grandfather over. Grandpa farmed the first biodynamic farm in England, but with no succession plan for when he wanted to retire, the farm was – sadly – sold in 1986. That both hurt us and motivated us all – unconsciously and consciously, towards a sense of healing when we met the Dr.Hauschka / WALA Trust model that we got to know from working with the products. The WALA Trust ensures that the WALA company could never be sold and that Rudolf Hauschka’s original purpose should never be diluted.
Grandpa, being driven up the Stockwood tree-lined drive, said “Oh yes, I used to come here when the Hillman’s were here”. He knew Rush Farm. He used to farm with them. Once again, we knew where we needed to be. We said yes and signed the lease for the farm.
Over the next 15 years our Elysia and Dr.Hauschka businesses have enjoyed a long story with many chapters; ups and downs. The scariest and most wonderful ‘up’ was that in 2006 we were able to purchase Rush Farm from Mr Johnson. And now we follow our hearts with that long-held intention to invest in the Community Benefit Society, to ensure that Rush Farm is held in a trust forever. This is a dream made reality; a community farm, organic, biodynamic, safe.”
To celebrate the Parsons’ journey and 15 years since they signed the lease, Stockwood CBS is pleased to introduce a two week competition for anybody choosing to invest in Stockwood, starting today, Wednesday October 9th. Any new or repeated investments over the next two weeks will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 hamper of Dr.Hauschka products, with two runners up prizes of a £25 Dr.Hauschka voucher. With less than half the investment left to go, now is a better time than any to invest in the Stockwood opportunity.
“Dr.Hauschka skin care products are developed to respect and enhance the natural functions of the skin and contain medicinal plant extracts and natural ingredients that are, as far as possible, obtained from controlled organic and biodynamic cultivation, under Fairtrade conditions.
Manufacturing natural skin care products that are of consistently high quality and available at all times is a particular challenge. WALA, the producers of the product, has gardeners that grow many medicinal plants in the company’s own biodynamic garden. Any components purchased externally undergo stringent quality testing; wherever possible they are obtained from biodynamic sources, certified organic sources or are wild harvested. WALA promotes biodynamic agriculture and makes it possible for people in economically under-developed countries to determine their own future.
In addition to medicinal plants, Dr.Hauschka cosmetics contain high-quality oils and waxes, plus other naturally sourced ingredients such as silica, natural brine, ground almonds, silk and mineral pigments.
The entire range is certified with the BDIH seal for certified natural cosmetics and / or the international quality seal for natural and organic cosmetics, NATRUE. So you can rest assured that Dr.Hauschka does not use any chemical or synthetic fragrances, dyes or preservatives in the creation of its range.”
Competition begins 2:00pm Wednesday 9th October and ends 1:59pm on Wednesday 23rd October, with winners announced by midday (12:00pm) Wednesday 30th October on the Co-Own Rush Farm Facebook page and the StockwoodCBS blog. All investments of any size made either through stockwoodCBS.org or through the Ethex online platform qualify for one entry into the random prize draw. Investments prior to Wednesday 9th October do not qualify, however re-investments of any size made by the same person will qualify. Maximum of one entry per person. Employees or relatives of employees of bodies involves in the competition are ineligible for the prize draw. First prize: one of each Christmas set “Regenerating Duo” and “Radiant You with Roses”. Two runners up prizes: £25 Dr.Hauschka vouchers. First place prize will be sent by first class recorded delivery to a UK address only, or by a courier. Runners-up will be contacted by the Dr.Hauschka team with a £25 credit put on a Dr.Hauschka account.
